Family
Family History: Dalton Caleb Sharmin, or "Caleb" as he decided to go by when he turned 16, had a fairly normal childhood. He lived with his mother and father in a small house in Atlanta, Georgia; had one older brother, Isaac. Caleb was an accident child; the age difference between he and his brother caused them to not have a close relationship, so Caleb might as well have been an only child. His father played baseball for the Atlanta Braves; one of Caleb's favorite memories is still going to the games to watch his father; spending time with the other players.
However, Caleb's life changed drastically after his 13th birthday. In late January, Caleb's father was killed in a head on collision. The death was devastating to Caleb; the news only got worse when his mother had met someone else only half a year later. Kevin Bale was a brute of a man - someone who Caleb could never call "dad," especially since Kevin already had a son of his own, and made it clear that he didn't want another. While his mother travelled for her job as a flight attendant, Caleb was at home, miserably tormented by Kevin, who beat and screamed at Caleb daily. As the scars piled up, Caleb shut down; soon found himself slipping away.
By the time he was 15, Caleb had stopped going to school completely; had instead taken to roaming the streets, buying drugs and alcohol. Each time he was caught. And each time he earned another beating. The only times Caleb received healthy social interaction was when he attended local baseball games and played sandlot type games with other boys. Baseball reminded Caleb of his father; it kept him grounded. it kept him alive.
His mother turned a blind eye to the beating; his step brother seemed to encourage it. Caleb's older brother wasn't around enough to care.
Finally, fed up with the way he was being treated, Caleb made a run for it. By the time police caught him, he was 200 miles from home and refused to tell them where he lived. After several tests, they sent Caleb into foster care.
